Legal advice for furloughed workers

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Federal workers affected by the government shutdown got free legal help Tuesday.

Attorneys with the Indianapolis Bar Association offered free advice on legal issues such as rent, mortgage, bankruptcy and child support to furloughed federal workers.

Local attorney Bryan Stoffel offered his time Tuesday.

About 800,000 workers are affected by the partial government shutdown nationally.

Meredity Theisen with the Indianapolis Bar Association said Daybreak on Monday that, along with missed paychecks, furloughed workers are facing a variety of legal issues.

She discussed some of those potential legal issues for furloughed workers and also an opportunity for those workers to talk to attorneys about those issues or problems.

Workers could visit the Indianapolis Bar Association’s office downtown from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday to speak with an attorney at no charge.
