(WISH) — The Madison County Prosecutor’s Office will no longer be using Edgewood Town Court after an employee made racist remarks multiple times.

Prosecutor Rodney Cummings says he was made aware the chief court reporter for the town court used a racial slur to refer to a Black employee in the prosecutor’s office on two separate occasions.

Cummings says he took his concerns to the presiding judge who he says has taken no action. The employee at question is still employed by the court.

“It is my responsibility to ensure justice for everyone, ” said Cummings in a statement to News 8. “I have no confidence that the fair and impartial administration of justice can occur when the person sitting next to the Judge in court harbors such racist sentiments.”

Beginning Monday Cummings says nobody from his office will be assigned to staff the town court and that no criminal charges or traffic infractions will be filed in that court moving forward.
