Makerspace at 16 Tech Innovation District is set to open
INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) — A new makerspace at the 16 Tech Innovation District will soon offer workforce and educational programs to local students and residents in the neighborhoods near the district on the near west side of Indianapolis as it prepares to open.
Machyne and Purdue University Extension Marion County are partnering on a series of programs in the core disciplines of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.
The program is geared for youth ages 13 and up and will expand to include multi-generational programming for adults.
“As a makerspace, Machyne can be many things to many people,” said Alex Bandar, executive director at Machyne. “We’re a prototyping lab for startups; experiential education space for students; a place to fine-tune new skills for people exploring new career opportunities; an art studio for creatives seeking to bring amazing things to life.”
PEMC will occupy one of Machyne’s eight private studio spaces and utilize the makerspace’s 15,000 square feet of space.
The makerspace, which will host a virtual grand opening Friday, features cutting-edge tools, digital prototyping resources and a media lab.
Machyne offers private, secure “studios” for corporate teams, entrepreneurs, or anyone who needs a private workshop.
It also has rentable worktables, lockers, and project space for hobbyists and product developers.
