Man, 53, killed in southeast side fire
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – One person was killed in a fire on the city’s southeast side Wednesday evening, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department.
Around 11:30 p.m., crews were called to a residence fire with possible entrapment in the 2200 block of Iowa Street.
Upon arrival at the scene, crews witnessed a makeshift, tent-like structure on fire. IFD said the structure was in a wooded area known to be a homeless camp.
Crews were able to successfully extinguish the fire just before 11:45 p.m. However, a 53-year-old man was found dead near the fire.
IFD says this is the seventh fatal fire of 2020.
