Man continues tradition of flag waving on 9/11 anniversary in Fishers

FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) — Motorists saw people in central Indiana waving flags on overpasses to honor the anniversary of 9/11.

Gene Schwarzkopf is one of those people. He’s been on the 116th Street overpass at I-69 all day. It’s something he does every year on the anniversary of 9/11. He says it’s important to him.. and he appreciates the support he gets from those who stand with him.. and those passing by.

“So all that noise, all the waving, it give you the energy, it gives you the idea that you know you’re making somebody’s day hopefully. But, the most important thing is we’re reminding them of what happened 19 years ago, and we don’t want people to forget that.”

Gene was joined Friday on the bridge by family members and friends.
