Marion County hospitals end flu-related visitor restrictions

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis hospitals are lifting temporary visitor restrictions with a decline in flu activity.

The restrictions began in early January at the recommendation of Marion County Public Health Department to protect patients, hospital staff and others during a time of high flu activity.

The health department says the percentage of patients visiting Marion County emergency rooms with influenza-like illnesses dropped significantly last week and is now below the level typically used when considering the need for temporary visitor restrictions.

Health Department Director Dr. Virginia Caine says it’s important for anyone with the flu or flu-like symptoms to avoid visiting a patient in the hospital and stay home from work or until symptoms are resolved.
