Mayor Hogsett discusses proposal to fight crime

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Multimillion dollar plans are in from the mayor of Indianapolis to stem the rise of violence in the city.

Mayor Joe Hogsett was on Daybreak Tuesday to discuss the wide range of crime initiatives he hopes to implement, including new technology and new officers.

In Hogsett’s budget proposal, there are also investments to address the root causes of violence. Mental health programs are set to receive $30 million over the next 3 years — hat includes in-school mental health and violence prevention programming as well as support for juvenile detention and high-risk homeless people.

“We’re planning to use this money in meaningful ways to reduce the violence and get guns out of the hands of the people who have no business possessing them,” said Hogsett.
