Mayor touts litter-collection program

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Mayor Joe Hogsett on Wednesday touted a litter-pickup program.

It’s a partnership between the Department of Public Works and the staffing agency Keys to Work. 

Crews met at East 30th Street and Post Road and moved south as they collected trash off the streets. 

Hogsett said workers have been beautifying Indianapolis through several projects since January. “As of today, that work amounts to more than a thousand hours of paid time to the men and the women of Keys To Work. That’s more than a thousand hours caring for the beauty of Indianapolis neighborhoods, as important a job as any other.” 

Keys to Work provides training and supportive services to ex-offenders, helping develop the Indianapolis workforce and getting Hoosiers hired. 

One side note, Hogsett will face Denise Paul Hatch in the mayor’s race in the may 7 Democratic primary. Hogsett became mayor in 2016.
