Motorcyclist dies in crash with SUVs in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind, (WISH) — A motorcyclist died Friday night in a crash on Teal Road, police said.

Officers were called to a three-vehicle crash shortly after 7:10 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Teal Road and Summerfield Drive, said Lafayette Police Department Lt. Matt Gard in a news release. Summerfield Drive is the entrance to a residential area east of South 18th Street.

A Chevrolet HHR sport utility vehicle driven by Gabrielle Lucas, 16, was headed west on Teal Road and attempted to turn left onto Summerfield Drive, the release said. Lucas turned across the path of an eastbound motorcycle and collided with it. A third vehicle, a Toyota RAV4 sport utility vehicle driven by Rose Villafuerte, 62, was stopped on Summerfield Drive. The Toyota was also struck in the crash.

The motorcyclist was not identified pending notification of the next of kind. The motorcyclist was died at an area hospital, the release said.

Alcohol and drugs were not suspected to have played a factor in the crash, the release said.
