Muncie man dead after Henry County crash

CADIZ, Ind. (WISH) — A Muncie man has died and another man is in the hospital after a single-vehicle crash in Henry County Friday night.

Indiana State Police say the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. on State Road 38 at West County Road 100 North. That’s just east of the town of Cadiz.

Investigators say Aaron Lee Hassett, 33, of Muncie, was driving a Chevrolet Impala westbound on State Road 38 at a high rate of speed when the vehicle left the right side of the road. Hassett over corrected and drove back onto SR 38 before leaving the south side of the road and hitting a tree.

Police say the impact of the collision was so strong that the engine came out of the car.

Hassett was pronounced dead at the scene. A 30-year-old man was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. He was taken to an Indianapolis hospital via medical helicopter with life-threatening injuries. Police have not released his identity.

State Road 38 was closed for about four hours while investigators responded to the scene.
