Murder suspect has remote home 10 miles from campus

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The man who has been arrested and held on the preliminary charge of murder in the death of Hannah Wilson, has a home approximately 10 miles from campus.

When 24-Hour News 8 went to the home of Daniel Messel, 49, on Sunday, no one came to the door.

Neighbors said everyone left town, but the front door was open and voices were heard inside. A dog was in the yard.

The investigation continues and more information should be released soon, including how Hannah and Messel initially came in contact with one another.

Messel has had interaction with law enforcement before and pled guilty to charges in 1996, including battery with a deadly weapon. Court records show he was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Messel is being held in the Brown County jail.
