Muslim Alliance hosts interfaith iftar dinner

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — On Sunday night, the Muslim Alliance of Indiana welcomed a host of people at the annual iftar dinner.

Iftar celebrates breaking the Ramadan fast.

Mayor Joe Hogsett and U.S. Rep. Andre Carson were in attendance, along with about 80 people from a variety of faiths. 

The dinner was at the Center for Interfaith Cooperation on West 42nd Street.

“The main goal of that is to start having dialogues and building community relationships. There’s no better place to have dialogue than over food,” said Faryal  Khatri, with Islamic Study North America.

“No matter how others may think or believe differently, they are our neighbors. They deserve to be embraced,” Hogsett said.

Organizers say the plan is to have interfaith iftar meals like this one throughout the year, whether during or outside of Ramadan.
