Pilot, teen brothers identified after fatal plane crash in Howard County

HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — Investigators have identified three people killed in a plane crash near Kokomo on Sunday.

The Howard County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as:

  • Jerral Long, 63, of Kokomo
  • Liam Kelly, 17, of Carmel
  • Reece Kelly, 15, of Carmel

A 17-year-old boy from Greentown survived the crash. Deputies arrived to find him being treated by bystanders. Investigators say he was able to provide important information to deputies by informing them that four people were on board. Investigators describe his condition as stable.

Investigators believe the plane, piloted by Long, struck a “large high-tension wooden power line pole” while approaching the airstrip for a routine landing at the Glenndale Airport. The crash happened just before 11 a.m. on Sunday.

The Kelly brothers and the Greentown teen were members of the “Flying Squirrels” club and were flying prior to a charity event at the airport, according to the Howard County Sheriff’s Office.

The FAA, NTSB, Howard County Sheriff’s Office and the Howard County Coroner’s Office are continuing the investigation.

Autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday.
