Police: Gun found near Blackburn home, not connected to case

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said a gun was found near the Blackburn family home but don’t believe it is connected to the case.

Lt. Richard Riddle with IMPD said a man showed up at a fire station near Broad Ripple this past weekend, claiming he found a gun a block and a half away from the Blackburn home.

The Indianapolis Fire Department turned the gun over to IMPD for testing.

At this time, IMPD does not believe it is connected to the murder of Amanda Blackburn.

Neighbors in Blackburn’s neighborhood held a meeting on Tuesday night. During the meeting the residents talked about safety, and about what they can do to make their subdivision safer.

IMPD has remained mum on the details surrounding the investigation. IMPD would not discuss sourced information from within the department that Blackburn was shot three times once in the hand, torso, and head.

Officers would not talk about the suspect’s getaway car being ditched near 40th and Rookwood.

Police are talking tips at Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS, or 262-8477.
