Pothole repairs begin across city

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Department of Public Works says so far this year, it has already repaired 17,000 potholes but still have a lot of work to do.

The department has said that a longer-lasting strip patching is key with the mayor’s new plan.

Since the beginning of the year, the department has had 1,800 service requests and have since closed 1,300.

Last week, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett held a news conference and showed new equipment to help with the problem.

The department is working with vendors across the city to get the process going.

City leaders say it can grind down old pavement and resurface a road that will last longer. But it does require hot asphalt, which isn’t normally made this time of year.

“This is not an Indianapolis phenomenon,” Public Works Director Dan Parker said. “Any city in this belt across the country has these same issues. It’s not just Indianapolis. But we do have more to throw at it this year.”

The mayor hopes $400 million of taxpayer money is the solution to the problem. His plan of action is to resurface 167 miles of roadway just this year.
