INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) — If you’re a pet owner, Indianapolis is a good place to be, according to one real estate website. Homes.com declares Indy to be the second most pet-friendly city in the U.S. for rental properties.

The Virginia-based real estate company used its vast amounts of data concerning apartment complexes, condos, townhomes and residential homes and their pet policies. It compiled the top 75 best and worst cities for renters with pets.

It found 62% of Indianapolis residential rental properties allow for pets, making it number two behind Louisville (68%).

According to the summary on Homes.com:

“Indianapolis, the runner-up best city for renters with pets with 61.2% pet-friendly rental listings, is also an ideal spot for pet owners. Many businesses and restaurants in the city are dog-friendly. They also have a large variety of dog parks. Clearly, Indy knows what pet owners need.”

So, what’s the worst city to find rental properties that are not pet-friendly? Houston at 4.4%.

Homes.com says Houston is a highly competitive and expensive rental market.

“Often, when it comes to cities where rent is extremely high, it is more difficult to find pet-friendly apartments,” cited the real estate portal.

Seven out of 10 millennials are pet owners, meaning they often base their housing decisions on pet policies.
