Residents experience wintry weather Thursday morning

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – On Thursday morning, residents on their morning commute likely saw some wintry weather in some form or another.

Most of central Indiana was under a winter weather advisory from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. and WISH-TV reporters were out monitoring the conditions.

News 8’s Nina Criscuolo was on the city’s north side at 116th and Illinois Street, where she was experiencing freezing rain around 6:30 a.m. Temperatures stayed warm enough that it never accumulated or became slick. Traffic moved smoothly throughout the morning.

Another important aspect of winter weather to always be aware of is the condition of the sidewalks. News 8’s Randall Newsome talked about the need to keep the sidewalks clear and who is ultimately responsible for them.

City officials are reminding people that when snow falls on your sidewalk the citizen is the one that has to clear the snow and ice off the sidewalk. I’s a safety precaution to keep people from slipping and injuring themselves as they travel on foot.

Finally, Joe Melillo was on the city’s south side to keep an eye on conditions. Very similiar to the north side, by the 8 a.m. hour, the precipation was primarily rain, making for wet roadways.
