Shella discussed RFRA clarification possibilities on MSNBC

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The controversy surrounding the new Religious Freedom Restoration Act that Governor Pence signed into law on Thursday continues to grow.

WISH-TV’s Jim Shella discussed the controversy on the ‘Up with Steve Kornacki’ show on MSNBC Sunday morning at 8 a.m.

When Kornacki asked how things got to the level of where things are now, Shella stated that this bill wasn’t introduced at the beginning of the session, but rather in the middle of the legislative session.

Shella stated that the Religious Freedom Restoration Act “doesn’t fit (Pence’s) agenda, but it does fit into his worldview.”

Shella believes the Governor plans to introduce a new legislation that states that the RFRA he signed does not supercede the ordinances of local municipalities. Another possibility is for Pence to amend the state civil rights code, Shella thinks.

Governor Pence will be talking to George Stephanoupolis Sunday morning at 9 a.m. to clarify the intent of the law.
