St. Nikolaus Day at the Carmel Christkindlmarkt

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) – The Carmel Christkindlmarkt is back at the Carmel City Center.

The Christkindlmarkt aims to bring the old world charm of Christmas in Germany to central Indiana.

Christkindlmarkt is the German name for the traditional Christmas market, literally translated as “Christ child market.”

The event runs from Nov. 17 to Dec. 23.

Thursday is recognized as St. Nikolaus Day at the event and in Germany. In the German culture, children use the day to honor St. Nikolaus by doing something like saying their ABC’s, reading a poem or singing a song, whereas children in America sit on Santa’s lap and tell them what they want for Christmas.

The full schedule for the day can be found here.
