Teen killed, 1 critically injured in Johnson County crash

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) – A 16-year-old boy died and a second 16-year-old boy was in critical condition after a crash Thursday night, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Just after 7 p.m. Thursday, deputies were called for a report of a single-vehicle crash to the 1600 block of South Paddock Road. That’s just off County Road 800 North between State Road 37 and South Morgantown Road in northwestern Johnson County. Deputies found a gray 2004 Volkswagen into a tree on the west side of South Paddock Road.

Center Grove High School will have a moment of silence about 6:45 p.m. Friday before its football game against Lawrence North High School to remember Austin Norris. He was a passenger in the Volkswagen driven by Hunter Riffle. Riffle was taken to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. Emergency crews had to free both boys from the Volkswagen.

Witnesses told deputies that prior to the deadly crash, the Volkswagen was traveling south on Paddock Road at a high rate of speed.

A spokesperson with Center Grove Community Schools told News 8 that counselors were on campus Friday to talk with students and staff members.
