The importance of Notre Dame


INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The iconic landmark, Notre Dame, unexpectedly caught fire Monday, burning 12 hours. Crews were finally able to control and extinguish the flames at the cathedral in Paris Tuesday morning.

The reaction to the fire at Notre Dame makes it clear the cathedral mean a great deal to people around the world.

Didier Bertrand, a professor of French language and culture at IUPUI, stopped by Daybreak Tuesday.

He discussed his reaction to the fire, some of the artifacts inside the cathedral and the reaction that he’s seen from people all around the world.

Additionally, he discussed what the ancient church means to the people of Paris, France.
