Vice President Kamala Harris to speak in Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Vice President Kamala Harris will be the keynote speaker at a luncheon for Delta Sigma Theta‘s national convention next week in Indianapolis.
The convention is scheduled from July 18-23 at the Indiana Convention Center, according to a Thursday release from the sorority. Harris will speak at the Social Action Luncheon.
The release does not say when the luncheon will happen.
“We are honored to welcome Vice President Harris at a time such as this — a time when more than ever, we must move forward with fortitude and elevate our power for a new era of impact,” Delta Sigma Theta National President Elsie Cooke-Holmes, said in a statement. “Vice President Harris has worked to break barriers and fight for working families throughout her lifetime of public service.”
The historically Black sorority has over 1,000 collegiate chapters in the United States, Canada, Japan, Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, West Africa, Southern Africa, the United Arab Emirates, and the Republic of Korea.
Harris is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
Harris was last in Indianapolis during the summer of 2022. She spoke to lawmakers following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and called for increased abortion access.
