West side store robbery caught on camera: ‘I was scared to death’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A west side store’s cashier said Thursday he’s hoping Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department can catch the people who held him up at gunpoint late Wednesday night.

It was caught on security cameras just before midnight at the Quick Stop convenience store on West 10th Street between Country Club and North Girl School roads.

As the video shows, two people barged in and pointed guns at Soni Dayal as he mopped the floor.

“I was scared to death,” Dayal said. “I did what I could to save my life.”

The robber forced Dayal behind the counter.

“They just threatened to shoot me or give them all the money,” Dayal said.

They raided the register and told Dayal to open the store’s safe.

“He threatened to kill me if I wouldn’t open the safe for them,” Dayal said. “They would just shoot me right away.”

He said he did what they told him and the robbers ran out about three minutes after they’d entered.

Both robbers wore black sweaters, light-colored pants, light blue gloves and some kind of cloth covering their faces.

“I want to tell them: Please stop doing this crime and scaring people,” Dayal said.

Dayal said he’s been held up at gunpoint twice before Wednesday night, but this was the first time since he started working at the Quick Stop.

“After that, you also have a nightmare of that, too,” Dayal said. “That does affect the mind and the brain.”

Dayal reported the robbery to IMPD.

Anyone with information on the crime can give an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
