When to get a coronavirus test

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The state of Indiana continues to report more positive cases of and deaths from the coronavirus.

But when should you get a test done?

WISH-TV’s medical reporter Dr. Mary Gillis, D. Ed. was on Midday Wednesday.

She says to only seek to get a coronavirus test if you’re experiencing the symptoms such as coughing, fever or shortness of breath/trouble breathing. Gillis says this is due to the shortage of tests that are actually available.

Additionally, she says the limited number of masks is another reason to avoid seeking a test if you’re not exhibiting symptoms. Medical professionals are unable to keep pace with those who are presenting mild or moderate symptoms.
