Lynhurst opens Veterans Memorial Garden
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Veterans Memorial Garden at Lynhurst 7th & 8th Grade Center opened today.
A group of 7th and 8th grade students in the Lynhurst Environmental Action Posse worked with a teacher to create the garden.
In the Wednesday ceremony, a student orchestra, color guard and show choir performed for a packed house of veterans and their families.
The teacher in charge of the garden says that he has family bonds driving him.
“I think of my dad who served, I think of all my family members. I think of people like Josh Bleill. When I read his book, it literally inspired me to be a better man and a better husband,” said teacher Christopher Moore.
The garden is expected to be completed this fall.
The last piece is a sculpture the students hope to place in a prominent position in the garden.
The group also plans to add an eco-trail on the property and other environmental projects in the future.
