Man arrested in scooter theft

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — Police have apprehended an accused scooter thief after he tried hiding in a rain creek to evade being captured.

The Columbus Police Department says that an officer watched Winston Zink, 31, working on a moped on the shoulder of a roadway on Wednesday evening. He saw that Zink had a warrant out for his arrest and soon pulled behind Zink, causing him to flee.

Zink would later jump into a Clifty Creek water stream, where he was soon caught after struggling to stay afloat in the water. Officers used a throw rope to pull Zink to safety.

Along with auto theft, he faces two additional charges of resisting law enforcement and a failure to appear in court.
