Man arrested, woman airlifted after tubing accident

MONTICELLO, Ind. (WLFI) – A woman was airlifted and a man was arrested after a tubing accident on Lake Freeman Saturday.

Around 5:30 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the area of White Oaks on Lake Freeman concerning a boating accident.

According to Indiana Department of Natural Resources, John Tuberty, 58, of Kentland, was operating a boat that was pulling a tube with passengers when the tube hit a large wake and disconnected from the tow rope. The tube and its passengers struck a boat dock. The victims were helped to a nearby boat ramp.

Eighteen-year-old Hunter Davidson of Earl Park was taken by ambulance to IU Health White Memorial Hospital. She was then airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis because of a possible spinal injury. She is in stable condition and believed to make a full recovery, DNR officials said.

Tuberty, who was believed to be operating the boat while intoxicated, was arrested after a BWI investigation. He was booked into the Carroll County Jail on multiple charges. Tuberty was released on bond around 9 a.m. Sunday.

In a separate incident Sunday, a 13-year-old Avon boy was airlifted to the hospital after his leg became entangled in a tow rope while tubing.
