Man charged with threatening to kill mother of Purdue superfan Tyler Trent

DELTONA, Fla. (WISH) — A Florida man was arrested Monday after police say he threatened to kill the mother of Tyler Trent, the Purdue University superfan who died Tuesday after a battle with cancer.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, 39-year-old John Pinkham used a fake name on Facebook to make multiple threats on Trent’s Facebook page. The threats of violence were aimed at the celebration of life for Trent scheduled to take place Tuesday in Indianapolis.

In the threats, Pinkham said, “funerals coming and I will appear like a reaper” and “i promise i will make headlines,” as well as other similar statements, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office worked with Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detectives to investigate the threats, and Pinkham was taken into custody at his home in Deltona.

On Monday, Pinkham was charged with making written threats to kill or injure and was being held without bond at Volusia County’s jail.
