Man dies after northeast side motel fire
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man has died following an Indianapolis motel fire Wednesday.
Al Williams died after the fire at Indy Hotel on 38th Street at Emerson Avenue, Indianapolis Fire Department Battalion Chief Rita Reith said Saturday. Williams had been transported from the early-morning fire in critical condition Wednesday.
About 45 people were evacuated from the building, which offers extended stay rooms for low-income residents. Many of the people inside woke up to smoke and struggled to escape.
The fire’s cause remained under investigation Saturday morning.
This marks the sixth Indianapolis fire death and the fourth deadly central Indiana fire in under three weeks.
On Wednesday night, a woman died in a Muncie house fire.
Two days earlier, two children and a teenager died after a Clay County house fire.
Four young children died in a house fire Nov. 21 in the small Carroll County town of Flora.
