Man dies in head-on crash on closed rural highway

MODOC, Ind. (AP) – Police say a 22-year-old man has died in a crash on a rural Indiana highway that for months has been closed to through traffic.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Department says two vehicles collided Sunday morning near barricades set up on the state highway in Randolph County. Levi D. Rose of New Castle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Star Press reports part of the highway was closed in March due to “severe roadbed failures,” but was open to people who live on that stretch. The sheriff’s office says the two vehicles collided while Rose was driving around a barricade.

A passenger in the other vehicle was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital and was later released.
