Man injured in police-involved shooting in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A man has been shot and injured in a police-involved shooting near downtown Lafayette, according to Lt. Matt Gard. 

According to police, around 12:44 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 800 block of North 7th Street. When officers arrived they were informed by a female complainant her boyfriend, 29-year-old Trevor Bowie, had left prior to the officer’s arrival and was alleged to have stolen a handgun from the female. 

Officers were provided with a description of Bowie and began checking the area for him. He was located nearby and a foot pursuit ensued. During the chase, police said Bowie pointed a handgun at officers in a parking lot in the 600 block of North 6th Street. according to Lt. Matt Gard, two Lafayette Police Officers fired their handguns, striking Bowie. Officers treated Bowie on the scene before he was taken to a hospital. 

Police said Bowie is currently in critical, but stable condition at the hospital.
