Man reels in massive sand tiger shark while fishing

CAPE HATTERAS, N.C. (WNCN/WAVY) – A Virginia Beach man reeled in a massive sand tiger shark while fishing at Cape Hatteras last week.

Ricky Anderson said he has caught sharks at Hatteras Village before but last Tuesday’s was the largest.

It took Anderson about 30 minutes to pull in the 8-foot-10-inch sand tiger shark.

A crowd of about 25 to 30 people watched as the shark was pulled from the surf and then released.

Despite having protruding, jagged teeth, sand tigers are extremely docile and pose little to no threat to humans.
