Man who crashed into convenience store died of stab wound, coroner says

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The death of a driver who crashed into a convenience store on Friday night has been ruled a homicide.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office on Monday said 34-year-old James Brown died of a stab wound to the chest.

When officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the Xpress Pantry at the intersection of Minnesota Street and State Avenue around 6:20 p.m. Friday on a report of a crash, they found Brown inside a vehicle suffering from a wound that appeared not to be associated with the crash.

Brown was transported to a hospital, where he died. On Friday, police were treating the incident as a death investigation.
