Mayor announces new tournament to Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A new tournament is coming to Indianapolis in just a few months.

Friday afternoon, Mayor Greg Ballard joined representatives from Indy Eleven and Indiana Soccer to announce the 2015 Mayor’s International Futsal Cup.

32 teams from around the state will compete in a special three day tournament.

Futsal is a version of soccer played on a hard surface with a heavier ball and teams of five.

Mayor Ballard says this tournament is a great opportunity to bring people together. “As we know, sports brings people together and the Mayor’s International Futsal Cup will bring an opportunity for Indiana residents from diverse backgrounds to come together to celebrate their country of orgin in celebration of the world’s most popular sport.”

The mayor’s Futsal tournament will take place in September.
