Mayors meeting in Indy express concern over the Brexit vote

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Brexit vote is a concern to the mayors from around the country who are meeting in Indianapolis this weekend.

More than 200 mayors are in town for the annual U.S. Conference of Mayors. They are here to discuss a number of issues of mutual concern.

Leaders said the conference will focus on infrastructure spending and federal government support for law enforcement, among other things.

Conference president Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said that the Brexit vote could have a big effect on cities.

“I think it sends up a lot of red flags to our country and countries around the world about the global economic stability of our major allies,” she said. “And it is a grave concern because I don’t know of many people in this room and probably around the country who thought that’s how the vote was gonna turn out.”

Mayor Rawlings-Blake said that we need to do everything we can to make sure that Great Britain is successful moving forward.

Meantime, the mayors are more concerned about sending a message to the presidential candidates that they need to create a strong partnership with the cities.
