INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) — Indianapolis-based FAST BioMedical has set up operations inside the 16 Tech Innovation District on the city’s near north side. The late clinical-stage medical technology company says locating its wet lab operations at the district’s state-of-the-art laboratory facility will accelerate its clinical technology development.

The lab facility is located inside 16 Tech’s 120,000-square-foot Innovation Building 1, for which officials cut the ribbon in August.

The company says it is developing technology to measure intravascular volume status and kidney function “in a clinically actionable timeframe.” Such technology aims to help in the treatment of patients with heart failure, cardio-renal syndrome and sepsis, among other conditions.

“The move to 16 Tech enables us to deploy more devices in more hospitals for multiple clinical trials,” Dr. Dan Meier, vice president of product development with FAST BioMedical, said in a news release. “We will be able to provide a rapid processing of samples using our plasma volume and kidney function measurement technologies to trial sites around the world.”

FAST BioMedical says the move to 16 Tech will provide access to equipment and services that smaller companies generally have trouble finding for themselves.
