New drug, alcohol treatment center opens in Indianapolis as overdoses rise

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A drug and alcohol treatment center is opening a new location to help meet a growing need.

Landmark Recovery cut the ribbon Wednesday on a new 72-bed residential facility on the northwest side near 71st Street and I-465.

Officials say overdose rates are up 30% since the coronavirus pandemic began, and it wasn’t easy opening in the pandemic with most of the related government offices shut down.

Matthew Boyle, chief executive officer of Landmark Recovery, told News 8, “It is nice for us to be able to continue doing what we love to do and serving our clients. We know a lot of other people are hurting right now and it just motivates us even further to be of service to our communities.”

Officials say the new space will offer weekly open meetings for people in 12-step programs as well as those in the LGBTQ community. Open meetings were not possible with the smaller facility Landmark runs in Carmel.
