Montgomery Co. man dies in accidental shooting

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — A Montgomery County man has died from a gunshot wound after tripping while carrying a firearm.

It happened around 2:45 p.m. Friday. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was called to 4234 South 600 West for a report of an accidental shooting.

Investigators say a 72-year-old man was heading into a wooded area to look for a wild animal that had been in his barn. That’s when he tripped, causing the firearm he was carrying to come back into him and discharge.

Deputies said no foul play is suspected.

The name of the man is not being released until the family can be notified.
