INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) — A series of temporary furloughs and layoffs resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic have been reported to the state. The Department of Workforce Development says the moves are affecting more than 1,800 workers.

The parent company of Indiana Grand Racing & Casino in Shelbyville has placed 1,126 employees on furloughs. Centaur Acquisition LLC says it intends for the furloughs to be temporary, “however, given the unknown certainty surrounding COVID-19, it is possible that the furloughs could become a permanent layoff.”

Enterprise Holdings is reporting temporary layoffs at several locations in Indianapolis and Mishawaka. In separate notices to the state, the rental car company says the layoffs, some of which have already begun and some of which will begin on Thursday, will affect a total of 452 workers.

Additionally, the Kosciusko County YMCA says it has temporarily furloughed 300 employees, the majority of which are part-time. The organization, which shut its doors March 19, says it hopes to reopen as soon as possible.
