Mt. Vernon schools issues letter to parents after sexual misconduct charges

FORTVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation parents have received a letter from administrators after an employee was charged with child seduction last week.

38-year-old Kisha Nuckols was charged for three counts of child seduction and one count of dissemination of material harmful to minors after being accused of having sexual relationship with half a dozen current or former students.

Nuckols had been a non-certified teacher’s aide, lifeguard and substitute teacher for the corporation.

It was on March 12 that the principal at Mt. Vernon Middle School was informed of the rumors between Nuckols and a high school student. It was 17 days later, on March 29, when the Mt. Vernon High School assistant principal learned of the rumors, which he reported to police on that day.

In response, the school corporation has sent a letter to parents assuring that action is being taken to review timelines and discipline staff members accordingly.

The letter reads, in part:

My primary concern as we move forward is how can we learn from this and improve our protocols as a school district. While I would like to think this will never happen in our school(s) again, however, this type of occurrence appears to be more frequent in our society. Please be assured that if we ever face this type of situation in the future, we will proceed by following these immediate action steps: 1) We will notify law enforcement and child protective services so they can determine if criminal or child abuse charges need to be pursued, 2) We will investigate the situation and determine if our staff acted properly in supervising the students and addressing the identified behaviors, 3) We will discipline staff and students following the required due process, involving the necessary parents in the process.
