How the 2020 Census affects the Latino community

How 2020 census impacts Latino community

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — News 8’s Multicultural Contributor, Gloria Jimenez, was in studio Monday to highlight the importance of the 2020 Census.

That event will take place in a couple of weeks and everyone needs to realize the importance of this effort. She pointed out, however, that not everyone is eager to participate. The Latino community has been under-counted for years, Jimenez explained. This could be due to a variety of factors, such as language barriers, poverty, education and immigration status.

She went on to say that the community is also worried about people calling and pretending to be from the Census Bureau just to get personal information from them.

Jimenez said the effort to get the Latino community involved in the census will take continuous communication.
