INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Kroger has hired nearly 24,000 employees nationwide in response to COVID-19.
A company spokesperson said the company is also planning to hire an additional 20,000 workers over the next few weeks in order to continue to provide food and supplies to communities across the country during the pandemic.
The newly hired employees are coming from some of the hardest-hit sectors such as hospitality, restaurants, hotels and food service.
The company said stores serving Indiana and Illinois each needed about 35 new associates and recruiters have hired nearly 300 people in the past three days. Hundreds more are expected to be hired in the next few days.
