Teen reels in 400-pound fish

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WFLA) – A South Carolina teen just pulled the catch of a lifetime.

WNCT reported that 16-year-old E.J. Nettles reeled in a 400-pound marlin at a fishing competition in North Carolina Wednesday.

The 9-foot blue marlin weighed 400.4 pounds, which was just four ounces above the cut off weight, meaning the catch almost didn’t count, according to the news station.

“It’s an awesome feeling…,” Nettles told Kinston.com. “…I picked the rod up and fought him for about 45 minutes or so.”

Nettles is the first teen to bring in a marlin in the tournament’s 60-year history.
