SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – In an interview Thursday, President Trump said he wasn’t shocked that Barbara Bush apparently disses him in a new book all because he campaigned harshly against the former first lady’s children.

“I have heard that she was nasty to me, but she should be,” he told The Washington Times in an interview. “Look what I did to her sons,” he added.

Trump was responding to a question about a new biography on the late former first lady that reveals she was extremely critical of him since the 1990s.

The Matriach: Barbara Bush and the Making of a Dynasty,” quotes from Barbara Bush’s diary in which she allegedly wrote that Trump represents “greed, selfishness, and ugly.”

“She’s the mother of somebody that I competed against. Most people thought he was going to win and he was quickly out,” Trump added, referring to former presidential candidate Jeb Bush. “I hit him very hard.

“That’s when his brother came to make the first speech for him,” Trump said. “And I said, ‘What took you so long?’”

Trump beat Jeb in the 2016 GOP primary, often criticizing him as “low energy.”
