NB lanes of U.S. 41 closed at Harlan Drive after lime spill

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – Avoid the intersection of Harlan Drive and U.S. Highway 41 in Vigo County after a lime spill.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts reports the lime spill happened in the northbound lanes.

The Honey Creek Fire Department said the powder is a combination of lime and sulfur. The driver transporting the load came to a stop and when the driver went to take off the load shifted and spilled onto the road.

At first, officials reported it was an issue with cars driving through the spill, kicking up the powder and creating dust.

ISP reported just before 1 p.m. that they are estimating another two hours before the HazMat crew can get the spill cleaned up.

Avoid this area if possible.

DETOUR FOR NB TRAFFIC: East onto Oregon Church Road onto State Road 159.
