New report finds tourism brought $10.3B to Indiana in 2013

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – A new report shows that tourism is the 6th-largest industry in Indiana.

The report comes from the Indiana Office of Tourism Development and Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann. The economic impact data from 2013 show travel and tourism supports more than 187,000 jobs in Indiana and contributes $10.3 billion in revenue. That’s $200 million more than 2012.

This is the second time the agency has commissioned the report.

Overall the report found the travel, tourism and hospitality industry makes up 1.5 percent of Indiana’s gross domestic product. The industry accounts for 4.7 percent of the state’s jobs and 6.3 percent of its tax receipts.
