Officer’s home video goes viral, sends message

ROANOKE, Virginia (CNN) – Home video from a Virginia police officer is going viral.

Officer Kenny Bowman says he was just joking when he pulled over his own children in their driveway. But there’s a message behind the fun.

“The other side of the badge, I guess you could call it,” Officer Bowman said. “We all have families just like most people do.”

Officers may protect us, but they want to get home safely to their own families. That’s the message behind Bowman’s video.

“I just came home from work one day in uniform, got out of the car, saw my kids were playing with their power wheel,” Bowman recalls. “I thought it would be cute to do a little video, just my friends on Facebook.”

In the video, you hear:

“Do you guys know why I pulled you over today?” Bowman asks his kids.

“Cause we’re too cute,” his daughter replies.

Now, the 55-second video that shows Bowman pulling his kids over for being too cute has gone viral, with more than 180,000 views.

“We put it on Facebook and it got shared from someone to a law enforcement website and it just basically started going everywhere,” Bowman said.

As a school resource officer at Patrick Henry High School, Bowman works every day to keep young lives safe. He says he’s happy the video may open the lines of communication between the public and the police.

“Show them who you are. Just let people know you can come talk to us about anything. Let us know what’s going on in your neighborhood. See if we can help out,” Bowman said.
