Officers surprise 3-year-old with electric police cruiser

SOUTHPORT, Ind. (WISH) –  Christmas came early for a 3 year old in Southport.

The family of Sam Williams says he’s enamored with police officers, so members of the Southport Police Department pitched in and surprised Williams with his very own police cruiser.

His family said that Williams visits the police station a couple of times a week.

“He wants to be a police officer,” Grandmother Christine Powell said.

His mother, Alyssa, is proud too.

“He loves the police so much and he always talks about them and he comes here at least once or a twice a week and is always getting stickers and candy, they just create such a good environment for him.,” Alyssa Powell said.

And Sam gives the Officers something too.

“No matter how bad of day you have he comes in and he’s got this big smile on his face.” Police Chief Tom Vaughn said.

So the officers pitched in and bought Sam the car.

“I just couldn’t believe it, it’s such a nice gift, and I know that he really appreciates so I’m really happy.” Alyssa Powell added.

The Southport Police Department is not big, only about a dozen officers, but they pride themselves on not only protecting the community but also serving it.

“It’s getting these kids when they’re younger and letting them know that we are the good guys and we’re here to help and here to do anything for you so for you,” Chief Vaughn said.

And Thursday they did just that.

“I don’t know what will happen, but I know that he wants to be like them and that is the highest form of a compliment.” Christine Powell said

The officers raised $300 to buy the electric Police Cruiser and a local shop did the decals for free.
