Pike Township schools get nod for fitness
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The American Heart Association will recognize the Metropolitan School District of Pike Township as the first fit-friendly school district in the 11-state Midwest area.
According to the American Heart Association, all 13 schools in the district accomplished the fit friendly status as a result of promoting physical activity and health in the workplace.
They said they recognize the fit-friendly organizations twice a year.
The areas of physical activity, nutrition and wellness culture achieved by schools in Pike Township include:
- A Building Wellness Coordinator at each schol
- District-wide “Million Mile Walk for Wellness”
- Walking tracks at each school available to employees
- Vending machines at each building carry 80 percent healthy snack options
The American Heart Association will present the Fit-Friendly Worksite Plaque Presentation to Wellness Coordinators from all 13 schools at MSD Pike Township Administrative Thursday at 7 p.m.
