Poison centers get reports of kids ingesting hand sanitizer

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Children younger than 5 years may be at risk for accidental poisoning during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

On Tuesday, News 8’s medical reporter, Dr. Mary Gillis, D.Ed., discussed a recent report by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 

The report assessed 55 poison control centers across the U.S. Nearly 50% of their calls were from parents or caregivers reporting their child had ingested a disinfectant, specifically hand sanitizer.
